Latino Media Group to Congress: Track 'Hate in the Media'

Sounding the alarm about a reported 40 percent increase in hate crimes against Latinos, the National Hispanic Media Coalition in Washington, D.C., called on Congress and the Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday to identify and track media that promote hate crimes, according to HispanicBusiness.com. The Coalition sees a link between hate language and the rise of crimes against Latinos, including several highly publicized murders. The Coalition recommends using a methodology created by UCLA that attempts to scientifically identify hateful languag in the media.
